I say forgotten only because when one thinks of the great Italian artist... people tend to always think of The Gospel of St. Matthew, Teorema, his so-called Trilogy of Life, or Salo. All extraordinary in different ways, but there's something about Accattone that sticks with me more than any of the others. Maybe it's due to Franco Citti's extraordinary lead performance... though I think it's also how Pasolini doesn't judge or scorn his characters. They're not puppets, as you state, which gives the film an unexpected organic interiority.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
