Marnie by Alfred HItchcock

English :
It’s always an interesting thing, to decide to watch again a film, that you had seen so long ago that you can’t really remenber the plot, and that only a few scenes, are awaking your memory, so blurred that you think, « I actually haven’t seen this film »
That was the feeling yesterday evening with good old Marnie.
In my memories, the film was entirely spent on the boat with a one to one fight to save Marnie.
It’s not the case, but Marnie got raped on the boat, and tried to kill herself in the swimming pool. That’s probably what stroke my young mind!
My cinema theory is that all films are linked like sausages, that cinematographies are dialoguing with cinematographies, so what lead me to watch Marnie, was having watched again The Last Metro, why that, I don’t know? But Truffaut being a cinephile, an obsessed cinephile, his films are like chest of drawers full of other films, and I can watch them indefinitely and find new evidences, but to recognise them I have to know where they come from, it’s like a giant enigma.
Marnie is not very smooth, the editing, is quite obvious, and I couldn’t watch it without thinking of the ropes, and also the painted sets are quite obvious, but it doesn’t matter, it really doesn’t, it’s like the reflection of a psyche. And when I started this film after a Truffaut it lead me to a Bunuel :Viridiana. And suddenly I wonder which film could have been influenced by which. I am going to investigate that, and you’ll know all about it.
The truth is that this film is extremely sexual. In this that nothing else compels Mark Rutland (Sean Connery) to Marnie (Tippi Hedren) than his sexual attraction to her. He wants to save her, against her will, to fuck her, it’s so human, and weak that it’s great. No boring promotion of good sentiments, no sweetness in Hitchcock’s art!
Connery is a total turn on!
Good old sick movies, where the stalker becomes a hero, the rapist a saviour!

Good choice for a first blog. The sets and backdrops always seemed to me that they were meant to seem fake. It was supposed to be obvious. Especially that sunset. It's been a while since I saw this but I thought that it was done so on purpose. Just a thought I'm probably wrong.
