Adventureland

La Version française suit la version anglaise!

Adventureland by Greg Mottola starts by a party in which James (Jesse Eisenberg, The Squid and the Whale) is dumped by his recent girlfriend. He let her know that he is a virgin.

The day after in a restaurant for the celebration of his college graduation, he learns by his parents that they won’t be able to pay for his European summer break, and that even joining Columbia’s grad school is in jeopardy. Basically they ask him to get a job!

Shocked by the news, he starts looking for employment. The only place who hires him is the local amusement park: ADVENTURELAND

Em (Kristen Stewart, Twilight) lost her mother only two years ago, which was almost immediately replaced by a bold cruel stepmother! Em sleeps with Mike Connell (Ryan Reynolds). He’s adventureland tech guy, but he’s considered like a star because he played guitar with Lou Reed on “shatellite of love”, he’s also married!

James fall in love with Em but her emotional situation is more complicated than he knows!

The action takes place in 1987’s summer, and Adventureland could be the follow up of Judd Apatow’s masterpiece TV show Freaks and Geeks.

Out of the classical childhood cocoon, and thrown in the emotional violence of the world like baby birds fallen from the nest, our heroes will clumsily help one another, creating their own life codes, own life style and own soundtrack (Lou Reed, Yo la tengo, The Replacements…) as it used to be in John Hughes’ universe. They’ll try to survive until the next ordeal.

with intelligent and subtle dialogues, this film is superb, extremely moving, funny, sweet and lightly bitter.
